Nobody should be too terribly worried about the draft. I'm sure it won't come down to it. Look at the amount of casualties coming from Iraq, we just recently hit the 1000 mark. Hell, in Korea and in Vietnam those numbers would be reached and surpassed very quickly. Let alone in over a years time.

What, you didn't know?
MSN posted a list of names of all the casualties. It sucks to see how young a lot of them are. Mostly around 18-23...

Yeah, in WWII there were, like, millions of deaths? Like, multi-millions. We didn't have a draft then, did we? I'm not really sure, I'm not a history major...
But anyway, draft isn't realted to th number of people dieing...

Yeah, thre were millions killed durring world wars. No, there wasn't a draft. Men and women were more than willing to do their part in the war effort. Very unlike today. . . I also agree that the draft and the number of soldiers killed do not correlate in any particular way.

Nobody wants to go to war, which is good. But then again, no one wants to contribute to their country...which is bad...

Well don't forget the mind set in this generation is much different now than it was then. People weren't as lasy then as we are today. We have been given this luxury because of the people who fought for us in those days, my Grandfather and father being a few...

Maybe its just me being more aware of stuff like this, but I've noticed that there's been a whole lot of advertising and stuff to get people to vote, which is cool. So is it just me or does it seem like there's more of it than past years?

The cry to get people out and vote is relatively new. It didn't happen nearly as much earlier. Unless you go back to the 50's and 60's, and then it was only targeted on African Americans. . . .

yeah, whats up with that? I've noticed that too. There's ads on like, Nickelodeon, and thats a kids channel... and on Mtv, I think.
Also, I think that the reason not many people are joining the army is becuase a lot of people are AGAINST this war. I mean, it was the same in vietnam, but there was a draft, so it wasn't much of a choice. But in the other wars we've fought in, Americans in general usually fully supported the effort. Everybody pitched in, even if they couldn't fight (like planting victory gardens, recycling rubber and aluminium, etc...).
But with this most recent war in Iraq, many people are out-right opposed to it. I don't think it has to do with lazyness or anything. And I'm totally cool with that... many many people died so we had that freedom... the freedom to tell our government "No, thanks".
And I really don't think, to be honest, the war in Iraq is 'defending the nation'. I mean, the war in Afghanistan, yeah, 'cuase of the Taliban and terrorists and all... to be truly honest, I don't think Iraq does or ever did pose a direct threat to America. Becuase if a situation arose where america needed to be defended, then the situation would be totally different. Then its people's duty to go help, if they're able.

guess what the subject of this year's 1st Presidential candidate debate was? hehehe.
MTV is a really big backer upper of the get out to vote stuff. Especially since they realize that they cater to an audience that stereotypically (i dont exactly want to say typically since i'm part of it) dont. Also they got the audience that's just starting to be able to vote. Unfortunately I'm not included and yet i'm still trying to get all the info i can on the candidates... isnt that ironic? But hooray for the "Rock the Vote" stuff ;D

Bleh, the government is probably supplying MTV with money with which to send out the message to vote. MTV is just the channel that most teens watch more often than not.
