"I see. Interesting. Excuse me, I need a little fresh air." Avroz stumbled outside, pondering over the chances there may yet be some way to lift his curse. "Did you hear that? Affel? Did you hear that? Maybe there's a chance." He sat beside the door. "I knew there was. We both knew that already." "But now we may actually do it. We could have someone to help us." Avroz threw a stone across the road. "We can do it alone. The jester said you need a strong spirit, and there's none stronger outside of the pool of focus." Avroz only smiled peacefully, "I wish I got the fire spirit instead." He fell over as if pushed, and didn't really bother to get up. "Joking, Affel. You're da best a da best."

Avroz's stone skittered across the ground, hitting the bottom of the Cardinal's stone prison. Glancing at it, Avroz noticed something odd. He couldn't get a good look from his position on the ground, but the Cardinal appeared shorter than he had been when they left him there. Actually, he looked about a head shorter...

He immediately sat up and leaned forward for a closer look. "Guys!" Avroz rapped on the door hurriedly. "Guys, get out here! Now!"

The interuption cut in the middle of Egakino's dance with a pretty bar maid, "huh? What's the matter Avroz? Did my dancing frog on the Cardinal's head quit?" He turns back to the girl, "Excuse me my dear," Hands her a flower, bows and starts making his way to the entrance.

"Odd... are you all right, Cardinal?"
((I can't really post a big reaction, don't know whats gonna be happening, I just want everyone to know I'm not being left behind.))

Nenet walked to the doorway and peered out at the Cardinal boss. She noticed a difference in height, but was unsure of what it meant. So long as he wasn't free to run around and cause trouble again, she really didn't care if he shrunk down or grew tall.

((Oops... Guess I was too subtle there. That head shorter referred to his literal head.))
Everyone rushed outside to see what was the matter, only to find the Cardinal leader, still encased in stone, but beheaded. There's no sign that anyone had been here since you entered, but the head is nowhere to be found.

((and i'm guessing whatever townsfolk were out there went into hiding yet again?)) "OH NO!" The horrified Jester went running out of the tavern. "THOSE MANIACS!! THEY KILLED HIM!!! THOSE MURDERERS!!!" He falls down to his knees and gently picks something off the ground, "THEY KILLED..... FROGGIE!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!" apparently the puppet's head was also cut off... but at least its head was on the ground nearby. "THOSE CRUEL INHUMAN MONSTERS!! HOW COULD THEY!!! *sob* *sob* oh... and the Cardinal seems to be dead too. ... ... Oh crap!! The Cardinal is dead!" He stumbles backwards.

Nenet made her way to the headless body to see how much the neck was still bleeding. They had not been gone from the scene very long so it did not surprise her to find that it was still bleeding quite a bit. What puzzled her was how it could have been done so quietly in the middle of the street without anyone outside noticing or making a sound. She did not know enough about blade weapons to guess what kind could cut through bone so quickly and quietly that the victim had not even had a chance to squeal.
She tore a piece of cloth from a layer of her robes and draped it over the bloody neck. The blood began to soak through immediately, but at least the bloody flesh was not in plain view.
"Retribution?" she wondered aloud, thinking of reasons a person would have to do such a thing. "Revenge? A warning?"

Safra stepped around from behind the stone prison holding a small piece of parchment. "A warning, it looks like..." She begins to read:
"If you think defeating these fools has changed anything, you are sorely mistaken. They were but a small part of a much larger organization. Struggle as you may, you cannot stop us. Give this message to the ones who sent you: the Devil in the West will not be vanquished."
"Umm, you weren't sent by someone, were you? I thought you were all coming from different places..."

"No, no I can't say I was sent by someone." Avroz stood behind Safra to read the note. "I've been here for months hunting something down. The others I cannot speak for." He looked at the sky. "The Devil in the West. Does that sound familiar?" He said aloud, secretly speaking to Affeleath. "Be it man or monster? Some omnipresence? Surely not, for what need has it then for threats? An elemental spirit?"

Egakino is off to the side of the street digging a small grave hole in a garden patch. He was conducting a funeral for the frog, "*sniff* He was so young and full of life with everything to look forward to...*sniff*" Gently puts the puppet and its head inside the ground and covers it with dirt. "He'll never fill the streets with joy and laughter with his magical dance ever again... *sob*" He puts white flowers on top of the grave and gets back up
The sky begins to cloud up as if in reaction to the Jester's sadness. The bar maid who followed him outside hands him her apron to wipe his tears. "It'll be ok, hun. He's in a better place now" She says as she tries to comfort him.
"I know... *sniff* I just never got to say goodbye..."
"Aww, poor dear" She puts his head on her shoulder.
"Bless your heart... you're so kind... *sob*"
The others are just baffled that he's actually really crying.

"Does-" Avroz turns to face Egakino and points, "Does anyone know what's wrong with him? He's starting to scare me. Then again, all clowns do... But still..."

Glancing over the note, Will thinks aloud. "I suppose these 'cardinals' are servants of this 'devil'. But, why would a creature so powerful to be able to behead a man silently... or at least enlist the aid of something this strong... bother to keep company of these weak cardinals? And what interest would such a creature have in such a little town? And why leave empty threats and kill their own henchman, when this assassin could just as easily attack us instead?"
"So many questions about this 'Devil of the West'. And I can see only one way to get any answers...
...to go West!" Will says, pointing to the sunset.
