wow, thats really nifty... i want one of those things! you know they're working on robotic exoskellitons too? i dont have a real bona-fide article for it, but i was wandering around the internet and found a thing from DARPA that talked about it. that would be a nifty thing to have as well ;D

I've been following this stuff for a looong time... ;D Cloaking, that's the best one I've seen so far... but its not the first. Its trange, people want to make an artical of clothing project 'invisibility', yet it would be much easier on a vehicle, which has rigid surfaces. In fact, it would be very easy to do so... its probably already been done, we just don't know it. Exoskelitons, there's two prjects I'm really following (theres another but its pretty lame) One, being made by DARPA (who develops 'futuristic' technology the army), is already complete and working, however, they havn't yet found an acceptable power source. Right now, they use a chainsaw engine, but its loud, makes too much exhaust, and only allows for 15min. of power (after which the soldier is wearing 200lbs of unsupported metal). The skeliton follows the users muscles and applies its strength acordingly. It allows the user to lift objects far heavier then himself, jump about 20 feet, and other such things. Here's DARPA's request to develoepers www.darpa.mil/baa/baa00-34.htmThere are a couple of actual models... one of which is BLEEX, search for it on google. Its a leg-only exoskeliton. The other project was similar, except much larger. The pilot actually stood inside, and operated almost exactly like the power loader from Aliens. This one was being developed strictly for civilian purposes, designed to be used in construction and moving/frieght. Other then a videa I watched, it was hard to find more information about it... Another thing that might be considered on this topic is the mask-like things that ghosts and other sci-fi soldiers wear. Those were once onder consideration, and they were even being tested, but they were rejected. The goal of the project was to make a helmet that totally covered the users head and face, and used some other way to relay the information to the user. There were a number of tests, but the idea was ultimatly rejected because all of the test models severly limited the users periphrial (or however you spell that) vision. let's see, what else... um, Lasers... I saw a report on a working laser. It was being designed for a ground based, anti-missle system. The demonstration showed how it could be prescise, and it burned a small disc out of a sheet of metal exactly 20mm deep or something like that, then they put it on full power and tore a hole through a pretend missle. It was pretty cool looking too- the laser had to charge up before it could fire (though what would be considered all that science-fictiony energy was a dumb looking shade of purple). The beam itself is invisable, as any good laser would be. Hey, you can find a lot of cool stuff at www.howstuffworks.com, they've got a lot of neat stuff there, although some of it is hard to find. I think they talked about exoskelitons once, they have a short article about focused electromagnetic heat rays (type in "pain beam" on the search), they have EMP bombs, and all kinds of other cool stuff there.

My bad. The first time my comp gave me that "too many people" error, so i thoughti hadnt posted. Anyways, yah, Will, its seemed fromt hat article that their main problem was getting a flexible material to do it. . .so they probably already have it on tanks and stuff, deep inside military bases ;D
