[edit] Wow, a lot has been posted while I was typing this... lol, you can just ignore it, its off-topic now...
yeah... I never played much of FF1- did start it, though, but started playing other things instead.
FF2, and 3 I've never played at all. I couldn't find a ROM anywhere, and there's no point trying to find the cardriges.
FF4, the first one on SNES, I played, but not all the way through, becuase there were errors on the ROM.
FF5, the first RPG I ever played, and so it holds a special place in my heart. The characters were above average, the storyline was excelent, and the Job system? Simply amazing.
FF6, my favorite RPG of all time. Characters, excluding Gogo and Umuro (who weren't
really characters... Gogo was actually a tribute for a squaresoft employee who died) were amazing- best characters in any console style RPG without a doubt. Storyline was excelent. The skill system was great- every character was as unique as their personalities. This RPG I love... and many of my universes (IE, Soulsaber and Magitechnology) have references to it.
FF7, another simply excelent RPG. Introducing: the great big sword. Great fights, materia was a cool skill system, awesome summons (Bahamut ZERO- coolest summon ever) and Sephiroth... great story, great everything. Second only to FF6.
FF8, didn't hold my attention. I didn't really find the universe all that great... Some of the character's were cliched, but for the most part were ok. the architecture in the game, though... I really didn't like.
FFT, wow, where to begin? I guess Tatics would have to be my favorite, if you count it as part of the series. its a totally diferent Genre, though. I absolutly love the game, even thought he disc continually broke (we've played on like three different copies). The storyline was excelent, the deepest of them all by far (and the most realistic, too), although it was extremly complex (I liked that, though). The class system was... well... simply the best system out of any final fantasy. the battle system, amazing.
FF9, I got a ways into this one, then the disc broke, so I couldn't finish it. It was great while I played it- I originally hated the idea of animals being people, and I still don't really like that, but I was able to look past it at least. The charaters were cool, and I really liked the way it felt like an Old-school final fantasy.
FFX, and this is where it ends for me. The characters were shallow and one dimensional, the storyline was justplain freaky, I didn't like the universe, only four elements? sphere grid was OK at first, but eventually all the characters' skills starting bleeding into eachother, and they didn't really feel unique at all. Some characters became obsolete altogether for me (Once Yuna leanred black magic, Lulu was pretty worthless. And Kimari and Waka wern't as strong as either Auron or Tidus.)
FFXI, wish I could at least try it, but i can't play MMORPG, so no judgment so far. I hear mixed reviews.
FFXII, Ok now this isn't even out yet and its already got me ticked off. Its SUPPOSED to be like a continuation of tatics- but EVERYTHING is different. Firstly, everyone looks like the people from FFX- if they're not in bikinis, they're in a dumb costume. All the realism and dark mood is forgon, giving us this bright looking teenager infested universe. And what's up with AIRSHIPS? There weren't any airships in Tatics (I believe there was one mentioned in a side quest, but it was a reference to FF6). Not to mention they look like flying bricks. And, they add a whole bunch of non-human races that wern't there in taticsm not even mentioned.
And on a side note, Square said they like the way FF is going, and will keep it going in this direction. They will especially focus on "Adolecent Relationships" (Thier words)...
And from what I hear, Front Mission Four is great, but not as good as three. Chrono Cross? Not nearly as good as Chrono Trigger...
