Okay, my friend, Maija, made this up. We could be a vampire, mortal, lycan, werewolf, blah, blah, blah. And the plot would be in Modern times. Not Medival. (Too many of those lying around.) So what do you think? I'd be a Sorceress. (Go them! ) Tell me what you think. Or die!!!

Palla was a former member who made a couple unsuccesful rpgs. From what i remember, they involved a lot of half-breed crazy super unique characters, which is something we try to shy away from.
More importantly. . . Lycan vs werewolf?

Whats the problem with unique-ness? I think it shows unique-ness. Well, it would, unless that'd be just plain creepy. But, why shy away from it?
And Lycan vs. Werewolf...I'll check with some peoples.

If u ask me, i have no problem with "unique-ness", being a designer. Everything can be turned boring if not careful, so I no longer care much about that old argument. I think everyone just doesn't like "goth-ness" around here.

Most RPGs with were-animals and vamps that I've seen have been less like an RPG and more like a contest on who can make their character seem the most tortured.

Its not so much that uniqueness and being "different" are inherently bad. One of our more successful RPGs, BugsItch, became almost entirely comprized of very unique characters as the story progressed. The problem, however, comes from the common outcome of having such unique characters. If the player isnt a strong RPer, the character can quickly fall into a boring cliche or become completely dependant upon his or her uniqueness. Even worse, it can become a crutch for solving RP problems: "Oh I forgot to mention, because im half demon-warlock AND a vampire. . . I'm immune to *current obstacle*" Therefore, it kinda became a "rule" that characters had to be fairly normalized. It encourages thoughtful roleplaying and makes everything more fun. At least, thats the argument as I see it. Its also worthy to point out that we're probably completely capable of playing so-called "super-unique" characters just fine. As a side note, uniqueness IS a word, so its perfectly acceptable to write it without the hyphen. EDIT: Also, werewolves are cool. If I was a werewolf, I wouldnt be about feeling sad for myself and being tortured. I'd be about biteing and clawing everyone I saw, and being an all around badass. For those of you who've read Harry Potter, reference Fenrir Greyback.

I've never been much interested in playing as a vampire or werewolf. Even when I played in RPGs that were about that, I usually played as a generic human or as a person with a bit of werewolf blood in them or things like that so that I was unique but not uber awesome unique.

Good point. And I love Harry Potter!!! Can't wait 'till the 5th, 6th, and 7th movie and the 7th book! ;D Go Harry Potter! Woo. Ahh...Well. If you don't wanna do the roleplay, okay. And just in case if I haven't mentioned it yet: Go Harry Potter!

Not a fan of the movies, but the books are quite good. Of course, thats pretty much my responce to everything: the book was better.
