Ok guys, now listen up, this is serious: [glow=red,2,300]There's going to be a mandatory draft for boys and girls between the ages of 18-26 starting June 15, 2005[/glow]
You heard right, there's a draft coming up. And college is no longer an excuse to get out of it. And there's been an agreement with Canada in that there not allowed to let draft dodgers in. They're trying to get this bill passed while everyone is paying attention to the election. Yay, more conspiracies...
So yea, this is everything i've heard. They're announcing it all over my college and stuff. I'm gonna spend the night reading about it.

Where did you hear that? And what are the exceptions to the draft? I believe there are some (medical and such), but I don't know for sure.

The only exceptions are serious disabilities (Missing a limb), chronic illnesses (asthma, for example), or perscribed medication of any kind.
I brought this up a while ago in the election thread. It was one of the reasons I wanted to vote for Kerry... Bush wants to reinstate the draft, but I really, really, really don't think we need one. I mean, really.... Its not like we're in a cold war, or on the brink of an all-out invasion.

I highly doubt its going to get passed, Bush tried it before and it didn't work. So there shouldn't be anything to fear.

Well, don't get too scared, and if you do get drafted it doesn't mean your going straight to war, you still have basic training and all that jazz, plus there are billions of jobs in the military if you don't want to go you can choose a job that is in the U.S. Just make sure your not in the Marine Corp Infantry...there the first ones out there next comes the Army....or you could choose the Coast Guard they never leave the states. I know all this because I was in a military school when I was younger...well not military school more like JROTC, but trust me when I say it was tough! They were the ones who wippedme back into shape from 7th grade to Junior year.....((those bastards I'll never forgive what they did to me))....Heh Heh that story will come later it's a long one......

No, its not that. I'm not afraid of combat. I'm not afraid to kill someone in a situation like that, either. I had originally planned on joining the military, actually. The Airforce, although that is more then a little different then being an infantry guy. If I were to be drafted, I'd want to go into combat, I guess... I might as well go all the way.
But thats not why. I just didn't want to do it... yet. There's more stuff I'd want to do first, before I joined the military. And not becuase I'm afraid I would die or somthing... but becuase I might end up being in the military for a long, long time. It runs in our family... and I can't say I'm too much different...

Well, the Military owns you for the first two years, after that your on your own, and you deside what you do afterwards, whether you want to stay or leave is your chose, of coarse the time will vary with each service you chose to go in. I mean, I was just about to join the Marines had I not been accepted in the Art Institute. My father had joined the Airforce and that's the best service as far as benefits are concerned, next come the National Guard, then the Navy, Army, and in dead last the Marines. I just wanted the challenge to tell you the truth, and I didn't want to go to the same service as my dad did. Well, I was just lucky I got accepted to the Ai. But if the draft does happen to come back, I'll be ready.

The bills in question are called S.89 and H.R.163. They are real, but I'm also finding a lot of sites saying there is high probability that they will not get passed.
So.... I dunno. But tis good to have a heads up on it than not. Damn, i wish i could vote... The election is Nov. 4, my birthday is the 28th.... i miss it by a month, what bs...

Kerry
This is how stuff like this gets passed under our noses. They keep it quiet and they rely on the fact that the public in general dont care... stupid public...
