Well, a lot of these RPGs have just been sitting around for a while... I figured it's about time I let you guys in on all the projects we have been (or still are) working on. They mostly don't have titles yet, so we call them by a simple name. "Structured" means set rules and statistics (maybe like Health, damage, or experience points), and dynamic means actual, story-telling RPing.
[/li][li]STARSHIP RPG:
This RPG is about 25% structured, and 75% Dynamic.
In this RPG, character are all military soldiers or officers. The Spacy (Spacy is like a navy... in space), to be exact. To be even more specific, they are all assigned to the newest, most powerful Super-capital class ship designed by the military- SSN Vindicator. It is a massive battleship, dwarfing other ships on the battlefield, and containing enough crew, facilities, and supplies to survive on its own for extended periods of time.
This RPG is both battle, and personal based. There is a war going on, in which the Vindicator takes part. However, it is not just one, massive battle, and characters have a lot of time to just stroll the ship and interact with eachother. Characters have also a lot of breadth and width in the creation of their character- Stations on the ship range from a birdge crew or comander of a specific section of the ship, down to some nameless engineer or guard. And of course there are the fighter pilots and marines that fight in the battles that the ship goes through.
For those of you that like anime, if you have SDF Macross or Robotech in mind, you wouldn't be far off. There are no giant robots (), and no aliens, and no civilian crew, but you do have the basic idea.
As for the statistical portion of the battle, only the ships commanders will have ot worry about it. Or rather, everyone will feel the effects of it, but only a few will actually take part in it. The number of crew, supply, and ships currently onboard are all kept track of- everytime the ship participates in battle and every time the ship gets supplied, these number are changed. This will have an effect on the players, as in, if the ship is low on supplies, rations may be put in place, or you may have restricted use of water. Or if a lot of people die, some NPC characters under your control may be destroyed or whatnot, coupled with the vast space to create a character, this makes a very dynamic and changable world to RP in.
[/li][li]STATISTICAL RPG:
This RPG is 100% Structured.
You guys might rememeber this one. Even though it was scrapped, the whole thing sits in a hidden board. It is almost completly done- all that really needs to be done is character creation and playtesting.
In this RPG, everything is kept track of. Your equipment, your health, your experience... everything is structured on a Final Fantasy type system. This RPG is heavily based off of FFTactics, with multiple job classes for your character to train in and use in battle.
[/li][li]UC vs CNE-
This RPG is 50% structured, and 50% Dynamic.
This dynamic and flowing RPG is nothing like the others. Every action has a reaction on the world.
This is WWIII. Earth fights against Space. Political tensions between the United Colonial Government (United Colonies, or UC) and the Confederated Nations of Earth slowly rise untill all-out fighting ensues. Niether side can be called the agressor, and niether side can be considered evil. They are both just shades of grey.
And becuase of that, character can choose which side they will like to play as. They can be from space, fighting for freedom and indipendence, or from earth, fighting to unite humanity, and to ensure peace for the future.
In this RPG, players on the same team are members of the same squadren. If players do well, they can be promoted, gaining control over some NPCs, and possably even over the other players in that unit. But wiht increased rank comes increased burden, as well.
Characters are pilots for either tanks or jets in this game (or something else... but that's seceret ). As the war goes on, new technologies are developed, and subsequently, players become stronger.
There is no true way to convey the scope of this RPG. The war will be going on- all around you- and you will be totally immersed. Each team will of their own seperate board. That's right, I said board, not thread. You will know things about your team that the other players on the other team will only have spotty, recon info, and vice versa. And perhaps, you will know something even your team dosn't, if you're high ranking.
Also, the whole war is dynamic. One team or the other could won. And even if your unit wins every battle you get in, you may still lose the war. your not the only one fighting. The whole world is. Me and dan, who will be GMing, will decide how this RPG goes along, as it goes.
It has a structured battle system, however, it is very flexable. Players can RP their circumstance right along side using HP and damage points, acuracy, speed, etc etc. And also, this is used only as a guide- Players are allowed to bend the rules now and then to better suit their RPing.
And best of all... well, I can't tell you. There is a major portion of the RPG I havn't told you about yet. But let's just say, it's really good. It would be a spoiler if I told you now, especially if you plan to join the Earth team...
[/li][li]SOUL SABER MMRPG-
75% Structured, 25% dynamic
This project was pretty tough on the GMs, so it was more or less scrapped. What it tried to do, however, was to create a RPG that simulated a MMORPG. Players can be together, or all off doing their own thing- it's all ok. They can form friendships, or even become arch-nemesies with eachother. They can develop their own storylines with eachother. And best of all, it's all in the soul saber universe we know and love (Or so I like to think ;D).
Battles are RPed by the players, but the outcome is determened by a basic fighting system. The rules can be bent for RPing, however, the system is pretty tight. Players specialize in use of weapons, each of which is strong against another type of weapon, and compare eachother skill levels vs eachother. If no rules are bent, the character with the higher skill level will alwasy win. If characters have the same skill levels, they could fight for a million years, and it would always be a draw. This may seem dumb at first, but remember- that's if no rules are bent. Which means that a lot of the battles outcome will be based heavily on a players ability to RP. So the better you are at storytelling, the better your character will benifit.
[/li][li]COMPUTER RPG-
This RPG is 100% dynamic. Most RPGs are 100% dynamic, like Soulsaber, or Project Maho.
At first glance, someone might say this is a rip-off of the matrix. But if you look closer, it really isn't.
Like the matrix, the world as we know it is a computer program. And, like the matrix, there are a number of people who can manipulate the program. But that's where the simularties end.
Humans don't exist. At all. To anyones knowledge, they never did, and never will. They are only a computerized race, built from the ground up by a race not yet named (for now, I call them 'controllers'... archtypal, yes, but enough for now).
For one reason or another, the Controlers created an entire universe, programmed into a computer. They created a single planet and it's moon, as well as some others, but these are mostly for Aesthetics. They programed every known law of physics, etc, etc. They created intelegent programs inside this digital universe, which they named Humans.
So you are not a living being. You are a file. A group of them, to be more specific. A list of variables, stored on a server, somewhere in a universe beyond our own. In reality, you are nothing more then a group of numbered files with the extensions .psn (Personality traits) and .hum (Human traits). You take up a chunk of RAM every time you think, you alter your file slightly everytime you breath, or move. All of your personal data is stored in your own personal section of the digital world.
And, since these files are apable of thought, some have began to do things they shouldn't. Like re-write themselves. Like re-write other files. Like go places in the file structure they shouldn't. Like go places in the digital world they shouldn't.
Controllers have the ability to go in to the digital world through a virtual reality type interface on their end. They do not actually enter our wolrd... but they can make it apear so. We see them as humans... 'avatars', they are called... and now and then they move among us to better understand things. Or to check up on us. Or perhaps, to keep us in line. We don't know.
What we do know, is there are a small group of controllers who want to tell the humans what the truth is. Most Controllers believe humans are nothing more then prgrams... but some believe, even if they are electronic... they are still thinking beings, and deserve to know the truth.
When humans know the truth... that they are just a program... things happen. Sometimes the human goes insane- the program was designed to handle that information. But somtimes, the humans relize what they are... and do what humans are meant to do...
...adjust to their situation...
This RPG is very new, and a lot of information is still missing. Like, Why did the controlers create humans? I don't think that will be a seceret kept from the players. What are the characters objectives/goals going to be? What powers will a human have who can alter files? It's still a work in progress, but I like the way it is going. ;D
