As for FFXII, Squenix has pretty much finished their "change of format" so to speak. They lost a lot of fans (including myself) with their move to FFX, but, they got many more fans.
If you liked FFX, you will more then likely like FFXII. Its battle system is now real-time, and apparently, more simple. I haven't played it myself, so I wouldn't know. As square puts it, they are trying to recruit the "adolescent" gamers, by focusing on young relationships and coming-of-age characters (neither of which I am interested in).
For me, the big turn off is the setting and universe... I am not a fan of that style of architecture (I don't even know what to call it), of wardrobe, of design, etc. Not to mention they call it Ivalice, which takes place in the land of FFT, which I thought was supposed to be the realistic medieval universe of the Final Fantasies (I feel a little betrayed). I don't blame square though, to please new fans, maybe you just have to let go of the old-school.
Also, I don't know if they stopped making games for gameboy (Have any new ones come out?) But yeah, they said they'd not be releasing another generation of gameboy, so they can focus their handheld market on the DS (which is really raking in the dough for them). I think it was announced last E3, but I'm not sure. (In effect, they are continuing the "Gameboy Advanced" line of technology, instead of releasing a new format of games, such as Gameboy color -> Gameboy advanced)

I played the demo that came with Dragon Quest VIII (which is a fantastic game in it's own right!) ...and the battle system kinda felt more like an MMORPG than anything else...as a matter of fact...the whole game kinda felt like that...but yeah, I dislike the direction it's now heading in as well....which is why i'm apprehensive towards it. And yes...I really had a hard time swallowing that the place that game's supposed to take place in is the same place that Ramza and Co. ran around in years before...
ugh- although you do make the same point I did a long ago...companies go to where the money's at speaking of which...has anyone also seen the trailers for FFXIII? ...I don't know where they're going with this one...but it's OUT there...and quite frankly...I've yet to be interested
which I guess applies to the Game Boy issue
-and while i'm at it- here's some console rpg's to sink your teeth into if you have a PS2...that I think rock over FFXII...albeit some of these aren't out yet -Valkyrie Profile 2 (this game's just damned good in general...with a pretty cool combat system to boot) -Dragon Quest VIII (this one's a good bit older...but holds up) -Okami (I will praise this game til' kingdom come- this is Cel Shading at it's best so far) -Rogue Galaxy (not out yet...but it's shaping up incredibly well) -Xenosaga...all three together (it's a bit complex...but quite fun)

Square is trying to make me buy FF12 by giving it Crystal Chronicles-looking graphics. Those meanies! They're praying on my enjoyment of the only good game they've put out since FF7!

Necessary double-post. Sony is being an ass again. I'm really starting to get irritated with the junk they're pulling. I really hope the PS3 sells horrible and does them in once and for all and leaves all of their games to other better gaming consoles. www.lik-sang.com/

Nevermind. Nobody ever does. Sheesh. Seriously, it's fine for a couple women in Philadelphia to sell and ship porkroll and scrapple all over the US, but God forbid Koreans sell and send PSPs to Europe.

Well, they probably had a reason to shut them down.
For one thing, the Asian and European PSPs are different. And the exporter may have been allowing the europeans to skip on giving their profits to sony (IE, somehow, Sony was losing money on the whole thing).
Because there are plenty of import sites all over the internet, why sony would close down ONE is strange. So of course, if you get your information from the site that was closed down, they're going to make it seem like sony is a big bully bossing everyone around.

Yeah, but the fact that they can name EU Sony higher-ups who bought the PSP from the site makes it seem like part of Sony didn't even care if it was "illegal" or whatever. Not to mention, this reminds me of when Sony first underproduced and released the PS2. People would fight to the death to win a free one, and they were selling on Ebay for $600 or more. At the time, the system itself was only $200, if that. That's a huge fscking profit if you ask me, but Sony didn't complain about that. And I don't think that the site was charging hundreds of whatever currency more than what they actually cost.
Anyway, it's even stranger that Sony wouldn't sell the PSP in those 100 or so countries on their own. Europe gets shafted when it comes to game/system releases. They get it later than Japan and US. They didn't get MGS3 until about a year after it came out here, and I don't see why there should be a reason for that.

Including Ebay, etc, profit making, etc.
As to sony execs getting their PSPs from them, where did it say that...? All the more reason to believe something was up that Lik-Sang conveniently forget to mention.

So is anyone here going to camp out in front of Wal-mart for the PS3? I saw some people under little tents outside of the nearby Wal-marts already. A guy my mom knows is camping out there. Dumb. Camping out for a $600 piece of gaming equipment. Well, I guess they wouldn't have to if Sony got right in the head and realized they'd make a lot more money if they made enough PS3s to sell to everyone instead of 400,000 people.

well, therein lies the issue doesn't it?
like I said- Sony will be selling at an incredible loss...however, they don't have a choice since the overall production cost of one individual system is ludicrously high (the production of the PS3 unit ran well into the 1000's I think...)...as a result, they can only produce so much at so fast a rate.
and did you know? a guy got shot while waiting in line for the damn thing...the fuck is up with these people?!

Oh man, I can't believe that someone would get shot waiting for a PS3. I also can't believe a guy would bring a gun to wait in line for a PS3. I heard that some guy in WoW had an extremely awesome item stolen from him somehow, and he tracked the thief down IRL and killed him.

You might be thinking of this: www.pointlesswasteoftime.com/revenge.htmlIts ridiculously funny, but of course completely made up. Now that I think of it, its also possible the author wrote it to make fun of an actual similar occurance Either way, I think it's funny as hell.
