My mom asks me all the time "When are you going to be an adult and give up watching cartoons and playing video games?" I told her never and that I'd be an adult and still do both.

when it comes to buying games i really like, i like having something tangible in my hands like the box, the cd, manuals, etc. I know what you mean here, Francis. Like Elder Scrolls IV, which I could have just as easily pirated for free, I chose to pay for it because I'm a huge fan of the series and I really wanted that collector's edition.

This is the the most awesome thing I have ever read. Someone quoted it on another forum I go to, and I have to share. It's hilarious beyond hilarious. It's from this forum that I don't know of or go to: futuremark.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23914Oh, also, the guy did give the account back a few days later

Hey, I saw that at pointlesswasteoftime.com Pretty funny, but I'm not entirely convinced that its real. Entirely too perfect to be true, but you never know

I believe it's for real. I think it would take a cunning and clever mind to think to turn it around on the otherperson, but I do believe it is real.

So I hear that some new system called a PS3 or something is coming out pretty soon?

Possibly you are correct...
This year, instead of getting a console, I have upgraded my computer.
PS3, seems like I would like it, depending on how many good games they can get. Playstation has had some good third party support in the past, and I'd rather have a $600 PS3 then a $500 XBox360+subscriptions+add-ons to bring it to the functionality of the PS3.
But for me, it all comes down to the games. I generally wait quite a while after the consoles come out, and see what kind of games there are (and also, I generally don't have any money). And also which gets adopted, Blu-Ray or HDDVD (That whole thing is the most retarded thing I've ever heard). Last generation, I was rooting for Gamecube, but after a while, I got a PS2 instead. Gamecube's game's, except for those few golden gems that mostly came out late in the consoles life, very simply sucked.

Gamecube rocked so damn hard, but no one even realized it because they were all satisfied with the PS2 they already owned and didn't really want to get a Gamecube. I mean, there are some great games on Gamecube, and there are also smaller less spectacular games that can still hook you in an instant and keep you held in place for hours on end. I mean, come on! Wind Waker (no matter what people say about the graphics because they're amazing graphics anyway), RE4 (which doesn't look as graphically awesome on PS2 and started on Gamecube anyways), Crystal Chronicles, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Animal Crossing (people loved it back in the day). As far as I can tell, no matter how many dumb games were made for Gamecube, PS2 has seen pleanty of dumb ones as well, even more since it was out longer. No one even thinks about that though, I bet.

I think the general public (myself included) saw that both systems had their share of great games, but the ps2 seemed (whether it be true or not) to have the wider selection.
I can agree that games make the system. I bought an xbox for Starcraft: Ghost. . . a game which now I'll probably never see. If I really felt like spending the cash, I'd get a ps3 for MGS4. At this point, I'm just going to hope its released on pc. That would make my year.

For the most part, when it comes to multiplayer parties, the PS2 is almost nonexistent. When we all gather at a dorm room to play its always either an x-box or a gamecube, not a PS2. If a PS2 is used, its mostly only for 1 on 1 fighting games. PS2 has great single player games though.

I concur with that statement...the XBOX and Gamebuce definitely have stronger multiplayer options in gaming with the PS2 being the better 1 on 1 and general 1 player gaming.
Personally...I go where the RPGs go...and by chance...that for now favors the PS2 (i'm not counting the next-gens yet...seeing as there's no way i'll be getting any of them...even the Wii). However, if I do continue...the 360 might just be a competitor for the RPG field...especially since they have Mistwalker studio supporting it for the time (Blue Dragon baby! from the same dream team that brought us Chrono Trigger! that game can't fail).
Although regardless I believe that we ALL can agree that it comes down to the games, that's what makes and breaks a system.
And like Will, I usually don't have a system until later in it's life...so I really get to see just what it's got to offer. In the end...my brother and I agreed on the PS2 as well...for the RPGs and fighters, although I really would've gotten the Gamecube if only to have Wind Waker...fortunately, thanks to Okami- that need for an adventure RPG was satiated (if you have not played Okami yet...I am exceedingly disappointed...it's the penultimate example of how a game needn't be hyper-real to be awesome...cel shading is go!). As for the XBOx...the only game I really liked on it was Jet Set Radio Future and Panzer Dragoon Orta...which wasn't enough.
But if I had to choose...I'd probably get either a Wii or a 360...both get a brand spankin' new Sonic title and have good RPGs coming their way. That i'd like to see what the next-gen Game Boy looks like...since the DS isn't part of the Game Boy line, not to mention...I would immediately run for whichever system FINALLY has a real Phantasy Star game on it...WITHOUT the online game and just the single player, whichever will carry the next NiGHTS, Panzer Dragoon, and Okami (if there's enough support...the lack of support for cel-shading is putting Clover studio in a bind).
On an extra note, online capabilities look like they'll be playing a stronger role than ever in who wins this war in the long run, in combination with the games...not something i'm too happy with, never did enjoy online anything, but that's just me...in any case, that'll be factor i'd say- especially for the 360 and PS3- although the Nintendo's download of old games service for use on the Wii (for a monthly fee of course) is pretty frickin' awesome.

Actually, Nintendo betrayed us and said they're not going to make Gameboys anymore, just DS games.

no way! sh*t...
the SP ends the Game Boy line then?! when was this announcement made? I completely missed that...
well..at least i'll get to carry Sonic 1 with me wherever I go with the release of Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis on the SP...but still...no more Game Boy?! wow...dammit...
Not to mention, back to the Next-Gen bit...I just remembered something...this is completely on the side...but even if the Wii lacks the power that the 360 and PS3 has...it'll probably be the only system of the three to NOT sell at a loss...as in it's price range should break even with the production..whereas Sony will DEFINITELY be selling at a huge loss (as did the 360 when it launched), unless it sells that many during the launch this Friday...
OH- and out of sheer curiosity...i'm not sure if it's been brought up or not...but does anyone here have any opinions on FFXII? I'm still rather apprehensive about it...so I have yet to actually give it a shot.
