There used to be a similar thread, but then I guess most members of the forum were already past the point where there was too much to talk about here. But not me.
So, I'm going to Middle Tennessee State University. I didn't get a music scholarship because the trumpet program is so poor they couldn't afford it, but that's ok. Because I am one of 20 incoming freshmen who have been accepted into the Buchanan Fellowship, which pays for tuition, fees, and books, which, combined with the state lottery scholarship of about $4800, will pretty much cover everything.
So w00t!

Ooh, lucky you. Sounds like a very nice scholarhip program you've got there. How hard was it to get? I mean, what were your grades, test scores, etc.?
I should prolly start thinking about college more, too. I'm almost done with my junior year. I got a 34 on my ACT, but my GPA's around a 3 point. Haven't taken the ACT yet. I'm looking at Michigan State, U of M, and Digipen right now.

Well, I have a 4.0, which is the highest I can get at my school, since AP classes don't do anything special for it. I only got a 31 on my ACT, which was disappointing, but also entirely my fault as I did no studying and also did far too little sleeping the night before. I got a 2200 on the new SAT, but only a 1400 by old standards. So though my scores were high, they weren't ridiculous.
There was an essay requirement though, and I did a nice job on that. The last line of my essay was "I am the purpose of the Buchanan Fellowship."

Its a different test completely now. 1400 was pretty damn good back in the day. I had a 1300 and people were zomging. But dont mind me. I'm just being conceited of my scores : )

My advice, deal with that whole "applying to colleges and campus tours" thing as soon as possible. See as much as you can and learn about what the facilities and professors can provide you. Then when you're finally on that campus it'll be your turn to impress them. Oh and you also want to scope out the general area around a campus as well. Knowing a close place to restock on supplies and food comes in handy.
oh yeah, and find out what you really want to do career wise and stick with it, blah blah blah, that whole speech. I hate hearing that speech myself but knowing what you really want to do actually does help ya focus.

I dunno Francis, I think its pretty ludicrous to go into college knowing exactly what you want to do and never changing your mind. Some people can do that. . . but I wouldn't worry too much about changing your major or any of that. Take a variety of classes and see if your tastes change. You could find out your high school lifetime dream is something you hate. . . or you might find out it really is the best thing ever.

I am going to college this fall as well.
I am just going to the community college, and getting basic courses out of the way. I have no idea, yet, where I'll be going and what for after I am through at the community college... but, heh, I'll have plenty of time to think about that.

Well, I'm not really converting. I'm just taking out the writing section, which is pretty much what's different about it. I got a perfect score on that, but nobody cares, so it's useless... Without writing, I got a 1400.

Alright, talked to my school couselor a few days ago. Apparently, I'm in the top 50,000 of the national merit scholarship program. Yay, me. Basically, what this means is I'm almost guaranteed acceptance to MSU with fairly substantial financial aid.

And try not to get cynical or bitter while you're at it!
You're supposed to be helpful damnit. . .
Seriously though. . . philosophy of hegemony and why the government/society is only making you *think* you have a choice in life. . . not the best idea for a college course.
