I like Wolfwood for his approach, past, and his weapon. By approach, I mean how he deals with things; go for the kill- the end over the means. Also this is one of the animes that defies me belief in looking at animations/art/etc to escape reality (the others being Samurai X, and another that I can't quite recall). That ties in to Wolfwood's anti-idealism which he retains until his death. Finally, in terms of approach; there's just something about the manner in which he takes a given situation that I prefer over the other characters in Trigun.
His past is classic stuff, young child trained to kill from the get-go. Then he even takes a deal with the 'enemy' to get what he needs to. Yet underneath all that, he is still a good guy- classic.
Then...there's his weapon: the Cross Punisher (later, Cross Punisher II). Modeled after his teacher's weapon- giant cross that becomes two heavy machine guns. Wolfwood's becomes a combination of every Desperado guitar weapon- a cross heavy duty machine gun, rocket launcher, and pistol storage. He wields that weapon with a style of his own, not to mention that it just looks cool (under the cloth anyway).

you should have a "the layer in the old days" week..if you CAN do that without loosing the code for this board..and revert back to the original so we all get a blast from the past.
