I bet thats part of it, too. I excell at shooters, which probably makes it easier for me to enjoy them. No matter how much you like a genre, its not as fun if youre terrible at it

I dunno. There are some genres/games that are still fun even if you suck. You can just newb around a lot and be goofy and have fun seeing stuff gib or using big, bad weapons with cool explosions and stuff.

I agree. That's generally how I play fighters, by button-mashing or doing repeated suicide rushes. Same thing, occasionally, when I'm playing particularly poorly at Halo(not the button-mashing of course).

Call of Duty 2 reminded me a lot of HL2, and was a nice candidate for steam. It has a high level of imersion, and makes you feel like you're there (The only thing I don't like about it, is you're the one who has to do everything. "Go blow up that tank!" "Stop that sniper!" "Clear the house!"). And yeah, there are tons of WWII games, but WWII is the greatest conflict of our world. If you're going to make a game, might as well be about the big one.
And also, some games are just plain good even if their content is a little low. Indigo Prophesy was a great game, but its story was... meh. Company of heroes only replays all the battles you've already seen in every game/movie ever, but multiplayer/skirmish/gameplay is great.

I'm going to start stabbing anyone alive who starts talking about Indigo Prophecy's story in a negative way.... And anyway Will, if they didn't tell you to blow up the tank, the scenario would be more like "You, Ivanavicholovsky (teehee), go blow up that tank! You, Cobra, stay here and hide like a wussy with the rest of us!"

In united offensive, then began having other people do things, for a while, and it was actually a lot of fun. They were like, "Wait for the bazooka!!" and you had to dodge bullets and try to find cover, but the tnak would keep blowing stuff up.
Like in one allied mission in COD2, you have to defend a hilltop. In between waves of infantry (and later Tigers), you had to survive artillery barrages. Taking cover and trying to survive can still be as fun as fighting (After the artillery barrages, though, instead of getting to defend the hill you had to run around and snipe mortar teams while your buddies did the real fighting). You miss a lot of the figting because you're always to busy blowing up a tank or sniping one soldier or putting bombs on some door or bunker.

I actually like games that dont have you as an invincible god-like figure in the battlefield. When a game can really make you feel like you're going to die and its completely hopeless and all your men are dying all around you, then thats a real war game (but i really hate levels where you're all by yourself... I like epic battles). I've only played CoD 1 all the way through but i know i've gotten that feeling in a couple of scenes like the one where you had to survive at a bridge as tons of german infantry and tanks kept pounding down on you (by the end of that level, all that was left standing was me who was almost dead and the captain who isn't allowed to die) and all those levels where you had to hold out in a building. Oh i also liked that giant rush with the Russians at the battle of Red Square, talk about a slaughter.

In CoD2, every mission is like that. There are no missions by yourself. There are many, many more people in CoD2 as well, in one mission you have to defend the Stalingrad City Hall from four waves each literally consiting of at least 100 germans (and later halftrack support).
The game is best played on the harder difficulty I've found, on the easier ones, it makes you superman, but on the harder ones, you have to duck for cover, and peek out from behind the rubble, etc.

CoD2 is out on Steam now. In fact, a lot of games are coming out on Steam, and I'm loving it very muchly.

Yeah, Steam having games is pretty cool. Makes it less of a hassle than driving out to the nearest store to actually buy the game. Gogo download online!

Yeah, and maybe if enough game developers put their stuff on Steam, all of the game publishers who are getting way too powerful will be taken down a few notches and not act so much like assholes. And yeah, downloading is so much easier. I actually look for games I can download nowadays because I have having to go out to buy the games.

I'm not picky, but it's just really annoying to ask my mom to take me to the mall to buy a game. She hates that I play games.
