I looked in the archives and came upon an rpg idea that I don't think was ever used. The idea of having Soviet and American forces fighting each other. I like the idea and I'd like to know if anybody else does. However, unlike the aforementioned thread, I'd like to be less strict on the charecters that would be applicable. There are many, many different aspects to war. Spies, snipers, figher pilots, bombers, tank commanders, paratroopers, all offer intriguing possibilities for a campaign. The rank structure I thought was also limited. PVT's and LT's only? That doesn't give much as far as options go. Grunt, or officer. . . grunt.

War is Hell RPG? Well, if we had spies, paratroopers and all that crammed into one RPG, the characters would never meet, eh? I wanted to keep my RPG full of action, as in, lots of PVP.

Let's see if I can find one of my previously planned WaD RPGs... one sec...
I will edit this post shortly...
[edit] Ok, the RPG I was thinking of is very, very old, older then Soul Saber. I'm sure the thread for it has been deleated by now, even out of the archives. The basic premise involved the characters playing as underground resitence fighters during a hypothetical WWIII. Russia owns all of Eurasia, America was unable to stop their advance. However, the two countries are now at a stand off, neither willing to spend the unbelievable resources it would take to mount a full force invasion of the other super power. But during the stalemate, the enslaved europian nations slowly grind down to nothing. The only even coneievably 'good' thing is that neither nation has decided to use nukes... yet. The characters play as europian resitance fighters. They could also concievably play as allied troops attempting to help the resitence (as spys, or secret supplers. USA has so far refused to send main force troops there).
That was the basic premis, but it was never fleshed out. It wasn't really meant to focus on conventional warfare (Tanks, bombers, etc) but instead on covert espionage and sabotage.
I'm just throwing ideas out there.

I'd like to see a RPG based on the Winter War. Finnish troops must defend the mountain passes and chokepoints, and stop the endless stream of russian invaders!

It's good for the economy, most times.
Some of you had some pretty decent ideas. As for what occurs, I'd like to have an rpg that isn't entirely structured. Something where the only real rules in place are what a charecter decides to do. Sure it places an ungodly amount of power in the charecter's hands. . . but there should be an a veto to that power. A monitor for the thread can go through and delete posts that are just too out there. I do like the idea of having a charecter sheet though with a full background. That way players can learn about the individual charecters before creating their own, and can create charecters that would have some reason for interacting with each other.

Well, a GM-run RPG would be neat. A good GM can really adapt to whats going on, and the RPG can be totally free-form. Plus, that keep all the players on the same page.
The only thing is, with an RPG like that, the players, the GM specifically, have to post a lot. At the very least, once a day. For me, thats no problem at all, but for a some of the other users it is.

sounds cool to me. and with a gm type game, i dont think that you have to post everyday. its not like its turned based or anything. it doesnt have to be like, everyone posts one then the gm posts. people post whatever and the gm just says 'by doing that, this happened' or something like that. so its only the gm that has alot of posting to do. unless, were all in a group, like some kinda tac team or something, and that way, all of our ations are based on eachothers. so then the gm doesnt even have all that much to do... well he does, but you know what i mean.
but thats considereing that there even is a GM.
i think it would work just fine with out one. like soul saber. we just need a setting and a mission... then we could just be let loose! bwahaha!
but there would have to me a moniter. just to tell people 'dont powerplay, real people cant do that' or 'your character doesnt have a nuke, thats stupid.' becuase i can think of a couple people who would get carried away with certain things in an RPG like this... or it could work on a general consencus thing. like if you think its stupid, or that its powerplaying, then say something. if people agree the post has to be either modified or deleted.
just throwing out ideas.

I dont think we really need a specificy person to moniter this kind of RPG. Nobody here has a bad habit of powerplaying, we all seem to moniter ourself well enough. Like you said Katt, is anyone thinks anything was out of line, they just speak up, and we discuss it.

So, it seems like a decent idea then? On the issue of needing to post at least once a week: I think the people here can decide if somebody needs to post, and can refrain from posting so much that a person who missed a few days will be left out. As far as a setting goes, what sounds good? I think the time frame should be post World War II but should things be set up just like small conflicts that happened all over the world. . . In the wake of WWII there were hostilities between the USSR and USA due to communism. All over the world small anti-communist forces battled with pro-communist forces. This kind of battle would be perfect for an RPG with only a handful of people playing it. (squad or platoon size unit)

I like it. What kind of setting are we talkin'? Desert? Jungle? Urban? We could say all of them... but that would be dificult to tie a story into, wouldn't it? Unless we play as some kind of special forces, multi-national team.
